Installation Guide for a Centurion D3, D5 Sliding Gate Motor
Site Considerations:
Before starting the installation process, it’s important to consider the site where the gate motor will be installed. This includes checking the cabling requirements and gathering the required tools and equipment.
Preparation:
- Gather all the required tools and equipment as listed on page 12 of the manual. This includes a ratchet and socket set, crimping tool, masonry drill bits, angle grinder, pin punch, hacksaw, spirit level, measuring tape, pliers, and safety equipment among others.
- Check that no pipes or electrical cables are in the way of the intended installation.
- Check that enough space is available for the gate operator, specifically for the release handle, and removal of the Gearbox Trim.
- Check for loose, sandy soil if installing a foundation, as the soil condition may require a larger foundation.
- Never fit the operator on the outside of the gate, where the public has access to it.
- Install the gate operator only if it will not pose a hazard to the public, there is sufficient clearance to a roadway and/or public thoroughfares, the installation meets all municipal and/or local authority requirements once completed, the gate mass and application are within the operator specifications, and the gate is in good working order.
Conduit and Cable Length:
- Route the cables as determined in the “Cabling Requirements” section.
- Ensure that the conduits protrude above the concrete foundation.
- The main cables should protrude 450mm above the concrete foundation.
- All signal cables should protrude 600mm above the concrete foundation.
Secure Foundation Plate
The foundation plate is a crucial part of the installation process. It can either be cast into concrete or bolted onto an existing plinth. If you’re bolting the foundation plate onto an existing plinth, place the foundation plate down in the correct position and use the plate as a template for marking the rawl bolt holes. Assemble the foundation plate without anchor brackets before bolting it down onto the plinth. Ensure that the M10 gearbox mounting bolts are properly tightened.
Add Oil to the Gearbox
The internal gear set of the D5-EVO is lubricated by means of an oil bath. Before operating the product, you must introduce the oil provided with the product into the gearbox. The gearbox does not require routine oil changes. However, in the event of the unit losing oil due to stripping down or mechanical damage, the correct replacement oil is Castrol SAF X0 75W-90 synthetic final drive lubricant.
Mount Gearbox
Mounting the gearbox is a critical step in the installation process. Here are the steps to follow:
- Fit the M10 nuts and washers to the mounting bolts.
- Adjust the nuts to be 7mm clear from the bottom of the foundation plate.
- Place the gearbox onto the foundation plate, aligning the mounting bolts with the holes in the gearbox.
- Secure the gearbox to the foundation plate by tightening the M10 nuts.
Mount Rack
Mounting the rack involves several steps:
- Start with the gate either fully open or closed.
- Place one end of the first section of the rack on the pinion, letting it mesh fully.
- Level the other end and fix that end to the side of the gate.
- Slide the gate halfway along the first section.
- Level the unsecured end, ensuring that the rack is resting on the pinion, not pressing down.
- Before fully fixing each section of the rack, slide the gate backwards and forwards along the section, checking that the rack is only resting on the pinion, not pressing down.
- Continue this way to fix all sections.
Mount Origin Marker
Mounting the origin marker involves several steps:
- For steel rack, mount the origin marker onto the rack using the bracket provided.
- Weld the bracket to the rack.
- Bolt the origin marker onto the bracket using the fasteners provided.
- With the RAZ rack, the origin marker mounts directly on top of the rack without a bracket.
- Drill mounting holes directly into the rack and bolt into position.
- File away the front lip of the rack if you need to move the origin marker closer to the operator as the gate slides past.
Apply Warning Decals
Apply the supplied warning decals to the gate as indicated on the reverse side of the decal.
